Children and Young People Support Worker – Rising Stars

To co-facilitate the children’s group Rising Stars. The group is for children aged between 5-11 years old and looks at different emotions and how these impact our behaviour.

Department: Family Team: Prevention and Recovery

Place of Volunteering: RISE head office (near the Level)

Hours of Volunteering: Two hour a week - Tuesdays 3.30pm - 5.30pm

Reporting to: Family Worker

This post is open to female applicants only as being female is deemed to be genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

To support in setting the group up through contacting families and assessing the children’s suitability. (There will be up to six children in a group.)

General duties:

  • Provide a safe and enjoyable space for children in the group
  • Assess children’s suitability to come onto the group
  • Help to set up and clean down the room
  • Organise resources for the session
  • Administration tasks
  • Entering case notes onto database
  • Any other duties as required and relevant to the team’s needs

Personal skills and qualities required:

  • Some experience and/ or qualification in working with children
  • An interest in young people
  • Good interpersonal, communication and listening skills
  • Ability to plan and organise activities
  • Ability to be patient and understanding
  • Ability to take initiative as well as encourage others
  • Ability to understand and work with confidential data
  • Ability to be flexible and work according to the needs of the team
  • At all times you will be expected to protect the safety and security of services, service users, staff, volunteers and buildings, and the confidentiality of records and other information
  • Acknowledge and actively support the rights of women, children and young people who have experienced domestic violence.

  • Where a volunteer works more than 5 hours in any one day a lunch allowance of up to £3.50 will be reimbursed.
