Fundraising and Communications Volunteer (x5)

Department: Fundraising and Communications

Place of volunteering: Hybrid working between the office and your home

Hours: 5 hours per week (1 day but can be flexible)

Reporting to: Fundraising and Engagement Manager

Role Summary:

Support our fundraising team to organise events (including digital, for example a virtual pub quiz or poetry/music event), promote fundraising activities and raise money to help over 2,500 women, children and LGBTQ+ people across East Sussex.

The communications side of the role will help increase RISE’s reach, improve our supporter base, raise awareness of RISE services and increase income, as well as supporting the team in raising RISE’s profile through both on and offline comms. Comms work will include checking the fundraising inbox and responding to queries, phoning supporters, posting across social media for various projects, alongside other marketing, and assisting with legacies work.

You’ll gain vital fundraising, communications, events, digital, admin and overall charity experience, and also get an insight into the day-to-day (now virtual) running of a fundraising team, learn more about the work RISE does and help raise money that will give even more survivors freedom from domestic abuse.

Personal Skills and Qualities Required:

General Duties:

  • Assisting with the organisation of fundraising events, both stand-alone RISE events and partner events within the community, e.g. The 8K Undercliff Run for Women, Heroes Run, bucket shaking and leafletting at events, engagement with our corporate partners, and creative competitions
  • Assisting the fundraising team to keep accurate records of fundraising and events activity, including financial income
  • Managing data and information relating to fundraising events and activities.
  • Assisting with the integration of communications and fundraising campaigns, events and messaging across current and future digital platforms
  • Supporting with promotion and awareness-raising for the service using a variety of media including researching, developing and scheduling content for Twitter, Facebook and other relevant online applications and platforms.
  • Working on legacies/gifts in wills
  • Keeping abreast of relevant current affairs (around domestic abuse, domestic violence, and feminist issues to join in the conversation on social media) and alerting the team where relevant.
  • Researching and compiling a list of media and community outlets for publicity across East Sussex.
  • Assisting in growing and developing RISE’s online presence – including web traffic and social media engagement.
  • Assisting the fundraising team with financial processes, including keeping and maintaining accurate records for yearly Gift Aid claims
  • Ad hoc research and contact of local organisations to request supplies, donations, promotions etc for RISE events
  • Research into appropriate trusts, foundations and grant-making bodies that sit in line with the RISE vision
  • Assisting with ad hoc queries from supporters over the phone and via email and reaching out to our supporters by phone
  • Assisting with day to day administration requirements, i.e. thank you letters, posting, filling.
  • Any other duties as required and relevant to the team’s needs.
