Cuts Cost Lives : Keep up the pressure

Posted February, 2024

As has been reported in the local press, Brighton and Hove Council have passed the budget which cuts almost £130,000 from our budget, without amendment.

RISE will lose a total of £129,681 per full year representing over 12% of our total annual income. This will destabilise our whole service.

  • £5,000 Third Sector: Support for mothers, babies and young children
  • £99,962 New Burdens: LGBT Dispersed Refuge and Therapeutic Wellbeing support for Women and Children - this is 100% of the funding for this service, which means the service might not continue
  • £24,719 New Burdens: Changing Futures (Casework navigator for women with multiple complex needs) - this is 100% of the funding for this service, which means the service might not continue

It is our understanding that the funding that has been cut must not be cut, as it is part of money allocated to specific projects by Central Government - it must be spent on the things it was awarded to us for.

We are deeply disappointed with this decision and will continue to push the Council to withdraw these cuts.

We have not given up yet and we ask that you keep up the pressure with us - we must not allow these vital services to be lost.
