W8K Undercliff Run for Women – IMPORTANT UPDATE

We’ve reluctantly made the decision not to go ahead on the undercliff on the 11th October, but to change the race to a virtual one instead. We have been transparent from the very start that we don’t know what the future holds, and that if circumstances prevent us from going ahead we will offer all participants a £10 discount, and transfer their entry to a virtual one.

What happens next?

You do not therefore need to do anything, other than sit back and wait for us to issue your £10 refund. Don’t forget to run/walk your 8K and submit your evidence for your medal. If you wish to support our work by waiving this £10 refund, or indeed if you would prefer to defer your place to the 2021 8K Undercliff Run for Women, please email [email protected] by Friday 2nd October. You can run your 8km at any time between Sunday 11th October and Sunday 18th October anywhere you like. You can use an app such as Strava to map your distance so you know that you have covered your 8K. You can either email us your race time or send us a screen shot of your run tracker app, and we will post your 8K Undercliff Run medal.

Once the virtual event has finished, we will publish the results and there will be prizes available, including for our top fundraiser.

Why is the race becoming virtual?

This was not a decision we undertook lightly – after working tirelessly on a radically amended event plan to ensure the event was Covid-safe, we did everything in our power to make this run happen on the undercliff. Our event DOES still have sign off from the local authority, however as a charity whose very ethos is to keep women safe, we feel it is the most responsible decision in the context of what is happening nationally, to offer the run as a virtual event. We are also at a critical point logistically, meaning we need to start paying suppliers for the infrastructure of the event. If the run gets cancelled by the local authority, which it may well do given we simply don’t know what is around the corner, this is money we will not get back. We know that our supporters trust us implicitly with their donations, and as such we feel that this is the most sensible decision.

Thank you for your support

We would like to thank you for your understanding, and for supporting this event. This has been the most challenging period in RISE’s history, and we simply wouldn’t still be operating if it wasn’t for amazing people like you.

Register for a place here!

Date: Sunday 11th October 2020 - Sunday 18th October 2020

Entry fees cannot be refunded. RISE will offer a £10 refund if the 8K Undercliff Run for Women is moved to a virtual event due to COVID-19. You are able to cancel, for any reason, up to and including the 14th working day after the date of registration. If you wish to cancel please notify us in writing by letter or by e-mail within this period. RISE will then refund any sums paid (less £3.50 admin fee). After this period your registration fee is non-refundable.

What is a virtual event?

You will be invited to run your 8km between Sunday 11th October and Sunday 18th October anywhere you like. You can use an app such as Strava to map your distance so you know that you have covered your 8 kilometres.

You can either email us your race time or send us a screen shot of your run tracker app, and we will post your 8K Undercliff Run medal.

What do you need to do next?

You should have received a Race Nation email with a link allowing you to log into your Race Nation account, which is how you entered the 8K, or virtual 8K, originally.

You can use this link to submit your 8K time once you’ve completed your run (or walk!). All you need to do is complete your 8km distance any time between 11th and 18th October, record your run/walk using a sports watch or an app on your smart phone. (Strava is a useful app to use and you don’t need to pay for their full service if you only want to record workouts.) You can also upload a photo of your distance by taking a photo of your watch or a screenshot of your app if this is easier. Once you’ve ran/walked and got your evidence, please upload it using the Race Nation app and you will automatically be added to the virtual event leader-board.

If you have difficulties doing this, please let us know or email your evidence to [email protected] You have until Tuesday 20th October to upload or send us your evidence. You will then be sent your medal!

Thank You

We would like to say a massive thank you to the Brighton and Hove Soiree Rotary Club for donating £200 towards the cost of our 2020 8K medals.
