"15 years ago, I was filmed for Channel 5's Brighton Beach Patrol as I worked for another Brighton charity and was running a Bungee on the Beach event on Hove Lawns.
They wanted to showcase the event as part of the TV show and film me in my bungee efforts as a fundraiser jumping for the cause with a team of others in fancy dress (optional, and of course I took the option)!
My then 9-year-old son was eagerly watching and wondering what would happen if a low flying plane was to pass as I did my jump!
Fast forward to today and I find myself working again for a fabulous Brighton Women's charity, RISE, and that 9-year-old is now 24. A lot's changed in those years, and now at the tender age of 46 (with menopause causing all sorts of grief) I find myself again stepping out of my comfort zone and adding to my bungee jump total, taking it to 10 jumps, but this time my son will join me!
We are welcoming others to join us on the first RISE Jump team, why not get in touch to book to jump too on the 6th September 2025 at 2pm?
My top challenge event tips:
- Choose an activity that suits you - when considering what challenge to take on, choose something you are going to feel comfortable and confident with. It’s great to push yourself out of your comfort zone but ultimately you also want to make sure you enjoy the experience.
- Set yourself a goal - be realistic, think about what you can do and raise!
- Cheerleaders Needed - having friends and family to meet at the end of the challenge, even joining you in training can also be really helpful.
- Have fun! - You will have put energy into your training and fundraising so enjoy it. Every challenge completed you will walk away with a smile on your face! If you want to do it in fancy dress - no one's stopping you!\
