FiLiA runs the largest annual grassroots feminist conference in Europe and this year, their conference will be in Brighton, on the same weekend as our 8K Undercliff Run for Women. 3000 feminists are expected to attend the Conference. We are delighted to share that FiLiA is listing the RISE 8K as a fringe event, encouraging both runners and supporters to the 18th annual RISE 8K Run for Women.
FiLiA is a women-led volunteer organisation and part of the Women’s Liberation Movement. Their vision is a world free from patriarchy where all women and girls are liberated.
FiLiA focuses on Building Sisterhood and Solidarity, Amplifying the Voices of Women, and Defending Women’s Human Rights. Their campaigns include
- Hague Mothers which covers the weaponisation of The Hague Convention to allow perpetrators to further abuse women and children
- Labrys Lit, a Lesbian Book Club
- The Kakuma Campaign which supports lesbians who have become refugees due to lesbophobia, which are then housed in an LGBT block in the Kakuma refugee camp which identifies them as being lesbian – exposing them to ongoing danger and abuse.
- The Women First project which focuses on harms caused to women in prostitution.
FiLiA also campaigns around Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), abortion, asylum, unions and the myriad other issues which affect women so aligning well with RISE.
Jo Gough, RISE CEO says,
“As a regular attendee at FiLiA conferences across the country I am delighted that this year, on their tenth anniversary, FiLiA will be hosting their international event in Brighton. Brighton was host to a similar international feminist conference in 1996 with many significant feminist voices alongside some of our local founders. We are looking forward to welcoming FiLiA women to our 18th 8K Run for Women on 12th October. Also, if you are attending FiLiA we will see you at the conference.”
Lisa-Marie, FiLiA CEO said,
“We take the FiLiA conference to a new city each year. We landed in Brighton in preparation for FiLiA2025 and started to hear about the great work of RISE immediately. We are thrilled to be partnering with them on the RISE 8K Run for Women and thank you for your tireless work. It's unlikely that I will be on the run, but will be on the sidelines cheering for this important cause. Sisterhood and Solidarity.”
Will you join us on the Undercliff for the 18th RISE 8K on the 12th October?
